Our History

BHM-history

Beverly Hills Montessori started in 1983, as a small privately operated centre, with 2 full time staff, and 1 part timer.

Back in those days we were only licenced for 19 children in the Pre-school Koala room, and the children attended for 3 hours per day, 5 days per week. The school was started with a passion for Montessori and the Christian ethos so close to Maria Montessori’s heart. Maria was a staunch Catholic, and strongly believed in the spiritual aspect of the child and its need to be recognised and nurtured (See “The Child in the Church” by Maria Montessori).

We started from humble beginnings with a dedication for children, which lays the foundation of who we still are today.

As time went on the needs of our families changed and we evolved into a Long Day Care centre, and so there could be no confusion in who and what we stood for, we added the word Christian into our name. The centre has grown substantially since 1983, and from 19 children we now have 91 children, and over 20 staff each and every day. However our passion and dedication has never wavered. Ours is a truly unique centre, with children always at the focus of everything we do.
